Hi there!

I’m a scientist who loves to bake, and here is where I document my adventures. Maybe you’ll learn a thing a two. Thanks for being here!

Sourdough Pull Apart Pizza Bread

This insanely good pull apart pizza bread takes all of 5 minutes to prepare, and is done in under 30 minutes. Easy, cheesy, pizza deliciousness. Perfect for game day!

I tried a few versions of pull apart pizza bread until I finally made this one. I tried making dough, similar to the sweet pull-apart bread, and I tried using sauce inside and baking...none were right. The sweet dough, even though I adapted it, turned out bland. And cooking it with the sauce inside made it soggy. The answer? Sourdough bread and dipping sauce!

It's ridiculous how easy this is, in comparison to how good it is. Paul and I devoured one last night in minutes. I kept going back to pick at the remaining crust because it was so addicting, and, well, BREAD. I ate so much of it! No regrets.

The sourdough bread is cut into a grid, and the cracks are STUFFED with cheese, mini pepperonis, and drizzled in garlic herb butter (a mixture of melted butter, minced garlic (oh yeah baby), and Italian seasoning). Baked to ooey, gooey, melty perfection.

To serve, you can use forks to break off the pieces, or, the way I like, get down and dirty with it and use your hands. Either way, the best part is the dipping. It makes it fun, and you can decide the amount of sauce you want. That way everybody's happy!

Step by step photos are below the recipe.

Sourdough Pull Apart Pizza Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 round loaf sourdough bread
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/3 cup mini pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tea. minced garlic
  • 1 tea. Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup marinara sauce, for dipping

Cooking Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with two 24-inch long sheets of foil, cross wise, and leave the overhang.
  3. Slice the bread making 5 cuts one way, and 5 cuts the other way, being sure to cut nearly to the bottom, but careful NOT to cut all the way through. You want to make a grid of pieces that can be ripped off, but still intact.
  4. Place the bread on the foil covered baking sheet.
  5. Stuff the mozzarella and mini pepperonis in the cracks evenly with your hands.
  6. Combine melted butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning.
  7. Drizzle mixture all over the bread, making sure it goes into the crevices as well.
  8. Take the overhand of foil and use it to loosely cover the bread.
  9. Bake at 400 F for 20 minutes with the foil on.
  10. After 20 minutes, pull the foil down, and bake another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and bread is golden brown.
  11. Tear pieces off and dip into warmed marinara sauce. Enjoy!
